Founded in 1998 in Montbard in the heart of Burgundy, Atelier Sarrasin makes a range of sweet and savoury biscuits with buckwheat flour as the key ingredient.
Montbard is a pretty town famous for being the birthplace of Count of Buffon Georges-Louis Leclerc in 1707. Buffon was a naturalist and a key figure in the Age of Enlightenment. He was director at the former Jardin du Roi in Paris, now the Jardin des Plantes, and transformed the site into a research centre and museum. He is the author of the Histoire Naturelle. Nature, which Count of Buffon spent his life studying and describing, is also a source of daily inspiration for Atelier Sarrasin, who believes that respecting the environment is a more modern path along which to proceed.
Buckwheat is a plant with a range of nutritional and environmental benefits. The buckwheat grain is gluten-free, antioxidant and rich in soluble fibres, as well as particularly easy to digest. The buckwheat plant is also a powerful pollinator and plays its part in revitalising biodiversity. This plant is a miracle worker.
